Happy New Year to all friends of Chesterfield Twinning!

This is a reminder that the next meeting of the Chesterfield Twinning Association will be on Thursday, January 14th, starting at 6:00 p.m. We will be meeting at Angelo’s Italian Restaurant, which is at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Courthouse Road, near the Bed, Bath, and Beyond store.

This meeting and the next few months promise to be busy! While our primary meeting focus will be getting ready for Gravesham Twinning’s May 28 to June 4 visit to Chesterfield, we have also invited Rick Tatnall from Richmonds of the World to talk about a Richmond area twinning association cooperation.

November 20, 2015, update:

Thanks to all of you who attended our November 3rd meeting, and thanks again to Bonnie for preparing the minutes. Please note there will be no December meeting, and that our next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, January 14th. We’re hoping to receive an update from Gravesham Twinning in the next couple of weeks, and we will keep you up-to-date on plans for their May, 2016 visit.

Notes from the November 3 meeting:

On Monday, Oct. 25, the event planning subcommittee met at the Egg and I Restaurant to start putting together an itinerary for the upcoming 2016 visit. Members had provided a number of suggestions which the subcommittee considered. After much discussion and additional research, a first draft was developed and emailed to all members for consideration and discussion.

In previous meetings we have discussed the possibility of expanding our twinning opportunities with other locations/countries. It was suggested that we consider reaching out to the twinning organizations in France and Germany that twin with Gravesham. We could extend an invitation to each to send a representative who would travel with the Gravesham visitors. An invitation could lead to the possibility of establishing a long term arrangement.

We received word this week from Gravesham Twinning that 17 of their members are interested in visiting Chesterfield May 28 to June 4, 2016. This number may increase (or decrease) as we get closer to the May visit. We are arranging a Skype call with Gravesham representatives in the next couple of weeks to find out more regarding their interests and plans.
